The Saleema Initiative on Eliminating Female Genital Mutiulation #iBelongToMe campaign and book were first implemented during the 3rd African Girls Summit, convened in Niamey, Niger in 2021.

The book chronicles a the journey of a young girl - Saleema - across Africa, where she discovers and lives the "girl's life" across the continent, while learning about what the continent is doing to improve the lives of young girls and women. It highlights how issues of girls and women are covered in continental legal frameworks, while re- enacting key historical moments leading to important milestones on girls and women's empowerment in Africa.
